The small ships of Cruise West have shallow drafts that allow them to enter remote ports and secluded inlets and bays. The captain can maneuver close to shore for an up-close view of a waterfall, for example, or of a bear ambling on a grassy hill. A casual onboard atmosphere is encouraged on these vessels, and there is no need to dress up for dinner.
