11 Day Danube River Cruise with Bucharest 2011 (Bucharest to Passau on MS Royal)

DAY 1: Depart the USA
Depart the USA for Romania. Your flight includes meals, drinks, and in-flight entertainment for your journey.

DAY 2: Arrive in Bucharest
Arrive and transfer independently to your hotel. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)

DAY 3: Bucharest City Tour
Dubbed the colorful title "Paris of the East" in the 1930s, Bucharest suffered considerable damage during World War II. The city has since recovered to its pre-war glory, and has become one of Eastern Europe's most enticing destinations. Your tour will take you along the city's main boulevards, lined with impressive buildings. Enjoy a visit to the Patriarchal Church before having lunch at a typical Romanian restaurant. Continue to the VIllage Museum where Romanian farmhouses are lovingly restored and then re-erected in their original setting. Transfer to your ship in Hirsova for embarkation. (B/L/D)

DAY 4: Afternoon in Rousse
This morning, continue sailing for Rousse, famous for its charming Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture. Arrive after lunch and enjoy a brief stop from 12:30 pm to 2 pm. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the optional excursion to Veliko Tarnovo, or stay onboard and relax this afternoon. Passengers enjoying the optional tour will continue via coach to Svishtov where they will re-join the guests on the ship at the end of the tour. (B/L/D)

DAY 5: Sail the Iron Gate
After breakfast, relax on the sun deck and take in the picturesque panorama of the Danube. Enjoy daylight sailing as the ship approaches one of the true natural highlights of the cruise, the world-famous Cataract stretch or "Iron Gate," where the Danube rises through the Carpathian Mountains and the foothills of the Balkans. Enjoy dinner on board this evening. (B/L/D)

DAY 6: Belgrade City Tour
Arrive this morning in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, situated at the confluence of the Danube and Save Rivers. Enjoy a tour of Belgrade that includes a visit to the Kalemegdan Fortress, a true landmark of the city. Your tour of the fortress takes you inside to visit its military museum and a Turkish bath. The tour continues to view the National Museum, the Parliament, the Terazije square, St. Sava Cathedral, and the Castle of Princess Ljubica. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure before sailing for Vukovar in the evening. (B/L/D)

DAY 7: Daylight sailing
Today we arrive in Vukovar, a town that was completely devastated during the Croatian War of Independence. Guests participating in the optional tour will disembark for their tour, while the remaining passengers will continue to cruise to Mohacs. Passengers enjoying the optional tour will continue via coach to Mohacs where they will re-join the guests on the ship at the end of the tour. (B/L/D)

DAY 8: Full Day in Budapest
This morning arrive to Budapest, capital of Hungary, created by the unification of the historic towns of Buda and Pest in 1873. The colorful hills of Buda sit on one side of the Danube while industrial Pest occupies the other bank. The first permanent bridge over the river, the Chain Bridge, is the most recognizable symbol of the city. Explore the city on your own, possibly visiting such prominent sites as Fishermen’s Bastion, Matthias Church, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Royal Palace. (B/L/D)

DAY 9: Vienna City Tour
Your afternoon tour of Vienna begins with a drive along the famed Ringstrasse, Vienna's main boulevard. View the hub of the Hapsburg Empire, and walk the courtyards to view sites such as the Vienna State Opera House, Parliament and St. Stephen's Cathedral. Enjoy the evening at leisure. (B/L/D)

DAY 10: Daylight Sailing
Cruise the scenic Wachau Valley renown for its production of grapes and apricots, which generate some of Austria's finest specialty wines. This morning enjoy time at leisure while docked near Melk. Tonight enjoy a Captain's Gala Dinner on board. (B/L/D)

DAY 11: Depart for the USA
This morning, arrive in Passau and transfer independently to the airport in Munich for your departure flight. Disembarkation will end at 9:30 am. (B)
